Eligibility Criteria

Peter Francisco Society

A non-profit, historical Society founded and registered in the Commonwealth of Virginia in 1971


Purpose:  To compile and maintain the documented records of Peter Francisco

and his descendants and to give him his rightful place in history

Peter Francisco was an American Revolutionary War hero known as

The Virginia Giant, Hercules of the Revolution, and Washington’s One-Man Army


Peter Francisco Memorial Scholarship

Presented by the Peter Francisco Society annually since 2013

Amount of Scholarship:  $500

Number of Recipients:  Usually two (2) per year


Publicized through the Society’s bi-annual newsletter The Virginia Giant, (September and February), and by contacting guidance directors/counselors of school divisions, mainly in Virginia.


Requirements and Scholarship information may be found on the Society’s website www.peterfrancisco.org.  One of the main requirements is for an applicant to write a 500-word essay about “the rights and responsibilities of a U.S. citizen.”

Evaluation of all applications is performed by the Scholarship Committee which consists of 3-4 Society members who use the same criteria for all applicants.


All applicants who do not receive a scholarship will be mailed a formal written letter of acknowledgment from the Scholarship Committee Chair.


Winning applicants will be contacted by the Scholarship Committee Chair first via email or text, and then with a formal letter of congratulations.  A Society member will present a Certificate of Scholarship to the winners, in person, if possible.
