School Board Notes – March 5: Literacy curriculum, budget discussion

Published On: March 8th, 2024

During its meeting on Tuesday, the School Board approved Benchmark Advance as WJCC Schools’ K-5 literacy core curriculum. Board members spoke with gratitude and praise for the devoted work of the curriculum review committee and the time and effort taken by stakeholders who participated in the review and lent their voice to the selection process. Robust professional learning is planned for all K-5 staff to take full advantage of the benefits of implementing a common literacy curriculum across all WJCC elementary schools.

The School Board also continued discussion on the FY 2025 operating budget. Action by the state legislature is anticipated to allocate additional state funds to WJCC Schools, above the original level proposed by the Governor. Though the amount of state funds is not final, the Board could adjust its budget before approving and transmitting it to the localities.
