Here are three things to know about the October 15 School Board Meeting:

A tool to build better writing

The Board approved the purchase of the writing intervention software NoRedInk. Teachers are able to use this tool to target students’ specific needs, helping to address challenges and prepare students for assessments such as the End of Course Writing SOL, PSAT, SAT, ACT and AP exams.

Capital Improvement Plan Development (FY21-30)

The Board delayed discussion on the Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) for Fiscal Years 2021-2030 until Dr. Herron presents her recommendations to the School Board on November. The CIP represents the capital projects the school division intends to pursue. A committee comprised of WJCC Schools staff and external community members is established to develop recommendations for the CIP. Employees and the public will have an opportunity to weigh in on planned construction, renovation and maintenance projects during a public hearing prior to any action by the School Board.

National FBLA Winner!

Lafayette student John O’Neill was recognized by the Board for his first-place win in the category of Securities and Investments at the Future Business Leaders of America’s National Conference this summer. We LOVE to celebrate our students’ successes- congratulations John!

And, here’s a story that made us smile this week:

LHS Principal Dan Miani visited the American Sign Language to chat – in American Sign Language- with students about their projects. So cool!
