At the Feb. 18 School Board meeting, Dr. Olwen Herron presented her budget proposal for fiscal year 2021. Data-driven and aligned with the school division’s strategic plan, the budget plan focuses on the increasing academic and emotional needs of students, safety and security, equity, and staff compensation.

The FY21 spending plan includes additional school counselors, teachers for the division’s growing special education and English-learner populations, behavioral specialists, more security officers for middle schools, a school nurse, and administrative support for some of WJCC’s largest schools and programs. Dr. Herron is also proposing a 3% raise for employees. For teachers, that includes a step increase and salary increase.

The School Board is scheduled to approve a final budget in March before sending the funding request to City Council and the County’s Board of Supervisors.
