Transportation planning for 2023-2024 school year

Published On: April 21st, 2023

In our ongoing efforts to efficiently deploy our bus drivers and transportation resources, we are planning transportation for the coming school year. Families of all rising K-12 students should anticipate receiving a bus ridership survey during the week of May 8. Timely completion of this survey will allow us to build accurate, efficient bus routes this summer for next school year.

At all levels, we regularly review walk distances from students’ home to their bus stop to economize on stops and consolidate with neighbors. Non-transportation zones will remain in effect at the secondary level for those living within one mile of school. Secondary students who did not receive bus service this year because of the proximity of their home to school will not receive bus service in the coming year.

A similar approach is under review at the elementary level for the 2023-2024 school year: Families residing within a half-mile radius of their elementary school, or in a neighborhood predominantly ineligible for bus service, will have the responsibility to ensure their children are transported to and from school daily.

The timeline for elementary non-transportation zone development is as follows:

  • Week of May 1: Families in the preliminary elementary non-transportation zones will be notified.
  • Week of June 26: Elementary non-transportation zones will be finalized, and families will receive communication.
