International Walk to School Day is October 2, 2019. We will kick off our Walk and Roll Incentive Programs on that day to encourage and recognize students who walk and bike to school either daily or as a part of our monthly Park and Walk programs. Stay tuned to your school’s webpage for your student’s monthly Safe Routes to School  (SRTS) Walk to School Day schedule. WJCC Safe Routes to School target sites are Norge Elementary, Laurel Lane Elementary, Clara Byrd Baker Elementary, Matthew Whaley Elementary, Berkeley Middle School and James Blair Middle School. We also recognize the growing contingent of  students and parents who help to alleviate congestion at arrival and dismissal by regularly walking and biking to school!

In collaboration with SHIP, BikeWalk Williamsburg, Historic Williamsburg Safe Kids and area police departments, Bicycle Safety clubs will be available at selected schools again this year.  Current Bicycle Safety club Sites are Norge Elementary, J. Blaine Blayton Elementary, Matthew Whaley Elementary and Clara Byrd Baker. Also, K-5 students will be invited to participate in division-wide bicycle rodeos. James Blair and Berkeley Middle Schools are also WJCC Safe Routes to School target sites and will provide pedestrian and bicycle safety peer leadership opportunities for students at those sites.

The National Safety Council’s School Zone Safety Tips provides great safety tips for drivers. As pointed out in the article, school days bring congestion. We ask that you please bring patience and alertness. We also recognize the growing contingent of  students and parents who help to alleviate congestion at arrival and dismissal by regularly walking and biking to school!
