Elementary & Middle School Summer Program

Program Duration

  • 9 a.m – 12 p.m. (Monday – Thursday)
  • 17 instructional days
  • Project Based Learning (PBL) Closing Program will take place on July 26 at 10 a.m.

Summer Program Description

  • Program Goal: to provide short, intense, instruction for students who struggle in the areas of English (reading/writing) and mathematics.
  • PBL will assist students gain knowledge and skills by working for an extended period of time to investigate and respond to an engaging and complex question, problem, or challenge.

Open House

  • Tuesday, June 19, 2018 from 4 p.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Norge Elementary School (grades K – 5)
  • Hornsby Middle School (grades 6 – 8)


  • June 26 – July 26, 2018, (Student Holiday July 4 & 5)
  • 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. (Monday – Thursday)
  • Norge Elementary School (grades K – 5)
  • Hornsby Middle School (grades 6 – 8)


  • Selected students in grades K – 8 will attend the summer program and parents of these students will be notified by their child’s principal by June 1, 2018.
  • Selected students that fail to return signed summer program forms will be removed from the registration list and those on the wait list will be invited to enroll in the Summer program.

Reading Recovery

  • Program Goal: to help students complete their Reading Recovery program which was near completion in June when school ended.
  • Program Description: intensive 1:1 reading instruction will be given to rising 2nd graders who were enrolled in Reading Recovery at the end of the school year, but were unable to complete their 12-20 week session.
  • Target Grade Level(s): rising 2nd grade
  • Student Identification Criteria: rising 2nd graders who have almost completed their Reading Recovery program
