As a related service, Williamsburg-James City County’s itinerant therapists serve in a supportive role in helping students participate in and benefit from special education.  They emphasize collaboration with other teaching staff, integration of educationally relevant therapy goals into the classroom setting, and inclusion of special needs students into general education classes.  Services are delivered through a balanced spectrum of services that include evaluation and assessment of student strengths and weaknesses, direct therapeutic techniques used with individuals and small groups that are in accordance with the student’s IEP, consultative services that provide recommendations for adaptations and modifications to facilitate performance in the educational setting,  and indirect services including classroom observations/monitoring and multidisciplinary student related meetings.
