Toano Middle School Choirs receive an invitation to perform in a collaborative choir event at Carnegie Hall in June of 2017.

My name is Valerie Hart, and I am the choral director at Toano Middle School, in Williamsburg James City County, Virginia, where I have had the pleasure to teach choir for the last 13 years.  I was honored when the TMS Choir received an invitation to perform at Carnegie Hall as part of the Distinguished Choirs International of New York (DCINY).  http://www.dciny.org/

Thirty-five students who have shown great dedication and commitment to the Choral Program at Toano Middle School were invited to be a part of this incredible experience, but without your help, not all of our students can afford to participate.

Funds collected will be used to transport, feed, and house the students, as well as pay for all DCINY Carnegie Hall required fees for each participant.    In addition to this, students will get to experience some of the other wonders of New York City, such as Broadway and museums.   To make this dream possible for our 7th and 8th grade students, we need approximately $1,300-$1,500 per student. All donations will equally benefit all attending students.

How We Were Discovered

A YouTube video of Toano Middle School Choirs was seen by an employee in New York City, then the video was reviewed by the Artistic Director of this event at Carnegie Hall.  I was contacted via email.  One additional audition tape later, the invitation became an astonishing reality.

Toano was one of only a few choirs across North America who were invited to participate in this once in a lifetime event.    What an amazing recognition!!!

Life-changing Opportunity

In June 2017, Toano Choir students will step on the stage at Carnegie Hall in New York City in this collaborative event to perform music by composer and conductor Fancisco J. Nunez.  http://www.franciscojnunez.com/

The concert will consist of compositions/arrangements by Francisco Nunez, who will serve as both the conductor and teacher for this event.   Students will have numerous rehearsals and will perform on June 26, 2017 under the direction of this renowned conductor.

It is a five day, four night trip that will provide our choir students with a once-in-a-lifetime performance opportunity, as well as the chance to experience some of New York City’s music, art, and culture first-hand.  Participating students will remember and grow from this experience in many ways, and it is my aspiration that I will not have to exclude any due to financial constraints.

With your support, no matter how big or small the donation, the dreams of my students will become a reality.

Thank you for your support of the Performing Arts and the students of Toano Middle School Choir and for making our dreams possible.
