After carefully weighing all options, WJCC Schools will start the 2020-21 school year after Labor Day on Tuesday, September 8.

The decision comes after the regional calendar committee reviewed thousands of responses to a regional survey and gathered input from various employee, parent, and community groups.

“We are announcing our plan to start after Labor Day now so that families and staff can begin to make summer plans,” said Dr. Olwen Herron, WJCC Schools superintendent. “The decision also allows the WJCC calendar committee to move forward in developing a full calendar for next school year.”

Although a start date has been set for next year, the regional calendar committee which includes representatives from WJCC, York, Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson, and Gloucester schools, will continue to look into the possibility of getting started earlier for 2021-22 school year.
