The theatre directors from all three Williamsburg-James City County high schools earned a rare national honor: the opportunity to pilot produce the Tony Award-winning musical “Suffs.” WJCC Schools is one of only 12 high school locations in the nation selected to receive the licensing grant for the Broadway production.
The musical, “Suffs,” tells the story of the U.S. women’s suffrage movement and features historical figures including Alice Paul, Carrie Chapman Catt, Ida B. Wells, Mary Church Terrell, and Doris Stevens. The WJCC Schools production features about 75 WJCC Schools students from all three high schools in the cast, crew, and pit band. The production represents a tremendous collaboration among Jamestown High School Theatre Director J. Harvey Stone, Lafayette High School Theatre Director Suzan McCorry, and Warhill High School Theatre Director Jacob Noble, who worked together on the grant application and all aspects of the production, from rehearsals to set design.
In addition to the high school theatre directors, help us thank other music directors across the division who have supported this production: Matt Rapach, Sarah Rapach, Will Headerer, and Cameron Baker.
