Thomas Nelson Community College Workforce Development Programs– Quality training specifically designed to meet the changing technical requirements for today’s jobs.  Includes accelerated workforce training, certification programs, and on-line classes.  Often these programs can be completed in as little as a few weeks or months depending on the program.  (Please note:  Workforce Development Programs are not eligible for Federal Student Aid, but some may offer tuition assistance through the Virginia Workforce Credentials Grant Program.)

New Horizons Center for Apprenticeship and Adult Training– Includes training in a variety of fields.

  • Programs in Health Science include:   Medical Terminology, Medical Assistant, Medical Coding and Billing, Nurse Assistant, Pharmacy Technician, Veterinary Assistant and more!
  • Technical Programs include:  Automotive Collision and Refinishing,  Automotive Technology, AUTOCAD, Blueprint Reading, Carpentry/Woodworking, Culinary Arts, Barbering, Cosmetology, Plumbing, Welding and much more!

Virginia Ship Repair Association – Experience not required!  Ship Repair Pre-Hire Trainee Program.

Apprenticeships – Registered apprenticeship training programs last between one to six years, during which time the apprentice is employed full-time with the sponsor company, earning a competitive wage with incremental increases.

Thomas Nelson Community College Apprenticeships – Thomas Nelson has partnered with employers around the Peninsula to provide a variety of apprenticeship programs in various industries. We work with and prepare Thomas Nelson students to connect with employers on the Peninsula accepting applications for Apprenticeships.

New Horizons Center for Apprenticeship and Adult Training –  Provides Apprenticeship related instruction for the VA Community College System and works closely with the Department of Labor.

Vocational Schools – Vocational schools, sometimes referred to as trade schools or career schools, provide practical training with few unrelated academic course requirements. Vocational schools typically offer relatively short, career-focused programs that quickly prepare graduates for the workforce.
