What did you do when you had a problem in high school? Talk to your friends? Talk to the school counselor?

What happened when they weren’t available? Wouldn’t it be great if there was another resource for students?

Now there is, The Student Assistance Program!

What is the Student Assistance Program?

The Student Assistance Program (SAP) is a joint initiative between the Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools and the College of William & Mary. The office is staffed by graduate and doctoral students from the College.  Student Support Specialists meet with students for individual and group counseling. While the program aims to help students at risk for behavior referrals, academic failure, and alcohol and substance abuse, our doors are open to anyone, who needs to talk.

Who can refer a student?

Faculty, staff, parents, and classmates can refer students. Referral slips are available in all classrooms and on the SAP office door. Referral slips should be returned the SAP mailbox in the main office.

If I refer a student, will I receive any feedback from the counseling sessions?

Student support specialists adhere to the same confidential and ethical guidelines as school counselors.
