Health insurance is available the first day of the month after you are hired, and we offer a choice between two comprehensive plans. The school division contributes a significant portion of the cost. Coverage is also available to part-time staff working at least 20 hours per week.

Both of our health insurance options include pharmacy, vision, employee assistance program and dental coverage. A stand alone dental option also is available for those who do not enroll in health insurance.

Employees earn a maximum of 10, 11 or 12 sick leave days each year according to the number of months employed with no maximum. Sick leave is available for personal illness or medical appointments or to care for immediate family members. Up to five days of sick leave may be used as personal leave each year.

The sick leave bank provides temporary income for long-term personal illness or disability. Employees must be contracted to work at least six (6) hours a day and may become a member of the bank by donating one day of sick leave.

Twelve-month employees earn annual leave at a rate of one day per month. Accruals increase with service. Up to 35 days may be carried over each year.

Twelve month employees are provided 11 holidays per year.

The Virginia Retirement System (VRS) administers three plans that provide retirement income in the future for employees who are contracted for six (6) or more hours per day. Employees hired into a VRS-covered position before July 1, 2010, are covered under the provisions of Plan 1. Employees hired into a VRS-covered position after July 1, 2010, are covered under the provisions of Plan 2. Employees hired into a VRS-covered position after January 1, 2014, are covered under the provisions of the Hybrid plan. Please visit www.varetire.org for more information.

Mass Mutual administers the supplemental 403(b) and the 457 deferred compensation plans. Contributions are made pre-tax through payroll deduction.

Employees covered under the VRS are eligible for group life insurance. Salary rounded to the next highest thousand, then doubled. The school division pays 100% of the cost.

Additional life insurance coverage is available for up to four (4) times employee salary. Coverage may also be purchased for a spouse and children. Employees pay the premium through payroll deduction.

Full-time employees are eligible for a Tuition Assistance Program. Up to six (6) semester hours or nine (9) quarter hours per fiscal year may be taken and reimbursement requested. Reimbursement will be 50% of the cost, not to exceed $600 per class. Applications must be sent to the HR department prior to registration.

Flexible Spending accounts offer a way to pay for health care expenses, dependent care expenses, and insurance premiums with pre-tax dollars.

We offer the following supplemental benefit plans through payroll deduction: disability income protection, hospital protection, personal cancer indemnity, critical care and recovery, and accident indemnity.

Long-term care coverage is available as an employee-paid benefit through Genworth Life Insurance Company. Eligible employees can purchase coverage for themselves and qualifying family members.
