WJCC Adult Education & GED®

Workforce and GED® classes for the 2026-2027 school year will be held in-person and/or online.

GED® Classes – The Adult Education/GED® (General Educational Development) classes serve community members 18 yrs. and older who are interested in earning a high school equivalency certificate. Classes include GED® preparation and career readiness skills.

In-Person GED® Classes:

9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

In-person registration and assessments are required for all WJCC Adult Education Classes.

Required enrollment fee (non-refundable):

  • Fall Session: $65.00
  • Winter Session: $55.00
  • Spring Session: $45.00

National External Diploma Program

Available in our region, this self-paced, web-based program for adults 21-years-old and over offers flexibility to earn your diploma even if you are employed full-time, enrolled in job training, or have other commitments.  For more information, call (757) 727-1328 or go to www.peninsulaed.com to complete an interest form.

The High School GED Program provides an alternative to a high school diploma for students who are not finding success in a traditional course of study.

Students who earn a GED through this program:

  • Have a high school equivalency credential recognized by schools and employers across the nation
  • Are guaranteed admission into community college
  • Can work toward admission into four-year college
  • Have a path for entry into the military
  • Are invited to a GED graduation ceremony

Students who enroll in the High School GED Program:

  • Must agree to place all personal electronic devices in a secured locker for the duration of class
  • Must attend GED classes two hours a day, five days a week
  • Prepare to pass all four sections of the GED Test: Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies
  • Complete career and vocational studies, including a personal finance course, a career assessment, building a résumé, and a formulating a plan for post-graduation education or employment
  • Must be employed, looking for work or volunteering

To be considered for the High School GED Program, students must:

  • Have a 7.5 grade equivalent or higher on a recognized standardized measure of reading achievement
  • Achieve specific scores on the GED Ready pre-test
  • Complete an application packet
  • Have a face-to-face interview with a High School GED teacher
  • Have a state-issued identification
