What is Mascot Time?
Mascot Time is a dedicated 30-minute weekly session designed to support students’ overall success. Named after each school’s mascot, this period focuses on enhancing academic progress and developing essential skills for middle school success. Lessons focus on items such as goal setting, study skills, academic success strategies, and career exploration.
First 9-Week Content & Topics
The content aligns with the Virginia Department of Education’s (VDOE) Profile of a Graduate, focusing on the 5 Cs, and VDOE SEL Standards. Lessons will cover content in one of three areas: Academic Skills, Career Exploration & Workplace Readiness Skills, and Life Ready Skills. Additionally, Mascot Time is used to share important school information, celebrate student achievements, and support MTSS initiatives within the school. Principals will communicate Mascot Time plans and topics in newsletters each month.

Common Questions
No, students are assigned to a Mascot Time Course in Canvas. However, this course is not graded. Teachers may use Canvas to share resources for the class.
Mascot Time will take place on Wednesdays between 2nd and 3rd blocks.
School Principals will include information about Mascot Lessons each month in school newsletters.
