The WJCC Schools’ 1:1 device program provides students with a device to supplement their learning through digital resources and activities such as conducting research, collaborating with peers, creating video and/or audio recordings, coding and more. It also allows for students to access features that support their individual learning, for example altering text size, read aloud, and translation.
Students in grades K-5 have access to a class set of devices for purposeful use of digital resources, programs, and applications in the classroom. These devices are not taken home on a daily basis.
Students in grades 6-12 are assigned a device to be used for learning throughout the school day and at home to allow for continued learning, collaboration, and studying outside of the classroom.
Participation in the 1:1 program is not required, but is strongly encouraged. Teachers thoughtfully and purposefully design lessons that use digital tools to enhance teaching and learning in the classroom and for work that is not easily replicated without a device.
Students will use their devices for educational purposes only, and at the direction of the teacher. Students will use their device to complete assignments, access classroom materials, research, create projects, and enhance overall learning.
Use of the devices will allow:
- Students to build information and media literacy skills, including analyzing and evaluating resources, which is critical for 21st century citizens
- Students to participate in engaged, active learning
- Students to utilize technology tools that facilitate opportunities for students to create, interact, and collaborate
- Students to interact with material in different, unique ways to meet their specific learning needs
Students are expected to use the device for educational purposes only, and at the instruction of their teacher. Specific expectations are outlined in the WJCC Acceptable Use Policy and include, but are not limited to, accessing only the sites needed for schoolwork, engaging in responsible, respectful collaboration and communication with peers and staff, caring for the device properly, and reporting damage to the technology kiosk as soon as noticed.

No, there is not a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policy in place at any WJCC school. If a student does not participate in the 1:1 device program, they will be provided with comparable hands-on or paper-based alternatives.
No, only division-loaded software may be used.
WJCC Schools is CIPA compliant and utilizes a filter and firewall to prevent access to inappropriate or non-instructional websites, including most social media and gaming sites. In addition to traditional classroom management processes, teachers have access to student device monitoring and management software.
WJCC devices are covered under an Accidental Damage Protection Plan for normal wear and tear. Repairs for intentional or neglectful damage and replacement of lost devices will be invoiced to parents/guardians.

Not necessarily, but it is recommended that students have a means to back-up documents for future use (e.g. thumb drive) and earbuds or headphones. Additionally, some students prefer to use a mouse and therefore purchase a wireless mouse for use with their devices.
No, each student will log in with their individual username and password. Parents are encouraged monitor their child’s usage and progress.
No, devices and chargers will be returned at the end of the school year for repairs and preparation for the upcoming school year.
